Better Than Coffee? This Super Green Smoothie May Be

Spring is here! Technically. And if you’re anything like me, you’re ready to ditch the stews and broths and trade in for something a little more…green!

There are a lot of green smoothie recipes out there. But this one has a little bit of something for everyone! Do you like spinach? It’s in there. Are you passionate about the healing elements of turmeric? It has that too!

The ingredient list is long. Preparing it is practically a wellness ritual in itself. But the reward is well worth it. This super smoothie is loaded with greens and ingredients that promote healthy digestion, energy, circulation, hydration and even clearer skin! But most importantly, drinking it just makes me feel better. The best part?  I notice increased energy that even allows me to occasionally skip my coffee. And that’s HUGE!

There are a lot of versions of this smoothie out there. My suggestion is to play with it. If you have a busy day, use the whole banana (I usually use half). Not a fan of cinnamon? You can skip it. The more you make it, you’ll discover what works best for you. If you have access to organic produce, awesome!

Happy Spring!

Super Green Smoothie:

1 cup spinach

1 cup romaine or kale

½ cup chopped celery

½ cup cucumber

½ pear

½ -1 whole banana

1 cup water *

1 tbsp. fresh parsley

1 tbsp. fresh mint

½-1 whole squeezed lemon

½ tablespoon Chia seeds

¼ inch slice fresh ginger

1 dash turmeric (optional)

1 dash cinnamon (optional)

1 dash cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Notes:

The great thing about this smoothie is that there’s flexibility to make it your own. Here are some things to try:

  • Use fresh turmeric
  • Hungry? Use a whole banana and pear
  • This smoothie tastes better when it’s cold. Consider swapping out water for ice.
  • Need some sweetness? Use coconut water in place of water.
  • Add collagen or protein powder for an extra boost!
